Course Description

Students will learn the basic concepts that go into making pop up structures and paper models. By the end of all the sessions, students will be able to make their own popup cards, popup books and many other fun paper based animations. These activities help students learn about geometry and structures and helps them develop their spatial skills, maths and lateral thinking. Learning outcomes: Students will learn how to use paper cutters safely for the popup classes. They will learn the various techniques to make simple popup, paper based mechanisms and animations using paper. At the end of the class, we want to encourage students to be creative and design to use the techniques to create their own popup cards, books and paper animations. Student project from our previous class: Examples of projects: Class dates:
  • 5th September - 26th September | Saturdays ,  12:00 PM to 2:00 PM  BST
Course also includes 4 hours of online material for students to review and learn from. Supply list:
  • Thick cardstock
  • Stationery (Pens, Pencils, Erasers, Ruler )
  • Paper Cutter (Amazon link to purchase this)
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Glue
  • Any stationery required to decorate (colour pencils, crayons, sketch pens etc.)
Instructor Profiles: Mathura is a creative technologist and educator from Bangalore. She completed her Masters and Fellowship from NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program, and her Bachelors in Electronics Engg.from NITK Surathkal. She has been teaching creative technology in various maker spaces and colleges for the past 4 years. She is the co-founder of Paper Crane Lab, an education space that focuses on learning STEM through Art and Design.   Dhanvini is an electronics engineer from Bangalore who works in microelectronic device manufacturing. She has a masters in microelectronics from University of Alberta, Canada and a Bachelors in Electrical Engg. from NITK Surathkal. She has been working in teaching STEM to kids in Canada and India since 2018. One of her favorite past-times is to figure out how to make interesting mechanisms using just cardboard.
